Our Sister Site: Hospice & Senior Care Finder

Last updated Oct 28, 2026

Hospice for Choices lists state-licensed residential care homes, which provide non-medical care and supervision. Nursing homes are a different kind of care, licensed differently and measured with different data. Our sister site, Hospice & Senior Care Finder, covers nursing homes.

Both sites are run by the same owner.

What you’ll find there

Hospice & Senior Care Finder lists nursing homes that are certified to take part in Medicare or Medicaid. Its listings come from the Care Compare datasets published by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Each nursing home page shows the facility’s CMS star ratings, nurse staffing hours, and inspection results and penalties, next to state and national averages. Every page shows the date of the data it uses, and a data sources and methodology page explains where the figures come from.

The site describes itself as an independent directory, not affiliated with CMS, Medicare or any listed facility.

When it helps

You may be looking at nursing homes after a hospital stay, or when a parent needs skilled nursing around the clock. In California, a residential care home may not admit or keep someone who needs 24-hour skilled nursing care. Our guide to RCFEs vs. nursing homes explains where that line falls.

Coverage

As of October 2026, it covers Oregon, with more states being added. It doesn’t list California nursing homes yet.
