About Hospice for Choices

What this site is
Hospice for Choices is a directory of licensed assisted living and residential care homes in the United States. We built it for families, most often adult children, who are looking for a place for a parent and want to start from the official record.
For now, the listings cover California only.
Where the listings come from
Every listing comes from a public state licensing record. For California, that is the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division. We list homes the state shows as “licensed” or “on probation.” Closed and pending facilities are left out.
We tidy up capitalization and add map coordinates. We never change a license number, a license status or a capacity. The data sources page has the details.
How we stay independent
No one pays to be listed here, and no one pays to appear higher on a page. There is no paid placement of any kind.
We are not a placement or referral agency. We don’t arrange admissions, we don’t take referral fees, and we don’t recommend specific homes. We also don’t show ratings, reviews or prices.
That leaves the choice with you. Use the listings to find homes near your parent, then check each one with the state and visit in person.
Who runs it
The site is run by the Hospice for Choices editorial team. Our guides are researched from state regulations and official agency pages, and each one lists its sources. You can read more in our editorial policy.
